Where is home

Home is where I am right now.

I don’t associate a home with ‘stuff’, or even four walls and a roof. A home is where I feel comfortable right now. That may be a hotel room, a new place or even our van if we are camping. A home is more than materialistic items, people get so tied up in the latest TV or a flashy sofa that they forget the important part, the people and our fur babies that are inside the space.

The question I get asked more than any other is ‘Do you think you’ll stay living here?’! I find this an impossible question to answer so my reply is always the same, ‘for now it is perfect, but who knows what tomorrow may bring’. You see, I have moved house that many times that my clothes can pack themselves, my husband and I are master movers. We don’t have homes full of stuff, we don’t have great grandma’s tea set locked away in an attic. We have a home that is full of noise, happiness, two crazy dogs and what we need to live. In fact, the last move we made was a big one. We moved from a three bedroom house to a tiny one bedroom apartment. It’s the best decision we have ever made. We have completely downsized our home and upsized our lives.

Home really is where we lay our hats. I have no idea what the future may bring, maybe we will move to the other side of the world, maybe we will end up back in North Wales, who knows. Instead of worrying about it, I try and live in the every day, which I admit isn’t always easy. It’s one of the things I truly love about living here, it’s easy to disconnect. I rarely watch the TV, instead I will put on music and read. The weather plays a big part though, so much time is spent outdoors that you don’t need distractions.

So for me home is where the heart is, it changes often and as long as I have a bed to sleep in and my beloved coffee machine, I will call it home.
