Women Of The World Contributor – Claire Evans

Hi, I am Claire, a 42 year old, wandering gypsy, wife and Mum to two fur babies.

From the very first time I got on a plane, I knew that travel would be a huge part of my life. At the age of 18, I travelled to India, at a time when you couldn’t fly there on a direct flight, and I was hooked. I have travelled all over the world for both pleasure and work. In 2004, I met my soul mate and fellow traveller, in 2007 we tied the knot on a beach in Thailand.  We had a very successful business in Llandudno, but when we announced we were going to up sticks and move to a small desert island in the Atlantic, I don’t think anyone was really surprised.

We have lived on Fuerteventura for 5 years, and after 3 house moves, I am very excited as I am about to get the keys for our first overseas property.

I have worked in the catering, hospitality and tourism industry for most of my working life. This helped me realise my second passion in life…food! My number one hobby and most favourite past time is cooking, trying new recipes and eating new foods.

After we moved, I took some time out, however, that didn’t last long! I now manage a beautiful yoga and pilates retreat on the island. This has brought with it it’s own challenges, from working in a foreign language, to understanding different cultures and working practices. But isn’t that what life is all about, new challenges, pushing your own boundaries so you can grow and develop every single day? The biggest difference to life here compared to North Wales, is that days off are spent lazing around a pool or on the beach, a long lunch or a sundowner with friends. Days seem longer here and life is at a much slower pace. I have been able to use this time to explore my love of yoga and meditation, scuba dive and get out walking. But the greatest advantage to living on this dessert rock? 1,50€ for a bottle of red!!!!

I look forward to sharing my ideas and thoughts with you all, I have known Ruth a long time and have seen Network She grow, develop and inspire some incredible women, and I hope to do the same.

Much love
