Diana Award CEO receives International Women’s Day Award
for their work as a living legacy to Diana Princess of Wales
The Diana Award – set up in memory of Diana Princess of Wales – was recognised by the Network She Foundation with a special International Women’s Day Award on Friday 4 March 2016 in Llandudno. This gala awards event recognises and rewards the inspiring achievements of woman from across the country.
The Diana Award was set up as a lasting legacy to Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. Her sons The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry support the award and Prime Minister David Cameron MP is Patron.
Tessy says:
“I am thrilled to be receiving this recognition on behalf of the Diana Award. Our range of youth-led programmes build character, develop skills and improve the life chances of young people. To receive an award for doing this is incredibly humbling. This comes at a pivotal point as we seek business partners and supporters who will enable us to create opportunities for many more young people here in Wales.”
Ruth Lloyd Williams, Network She Foundation Founder says:
Our mission at the Network She Foundation is to provide women and young people with access to skills, confidence and networks they need to become successful. On the night of the Network She Foundation International Women’s Day Awards we are thrilled to be able to recognise the work of an organisation who are the living legacy to Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. In inspiring and recognising the social action in young people they are building a strong and stable foundation for the future”
On the morning of the gala event, nine-year old Mia Thorne received a surprise visit from the Diana Award to her primary school in Pontypridd where she was presented with the Diana Award. Mia has the condition congenital hemiplegia (cerebral palsy) but this has not stopped her dedicating herself to help other children who have disabilities and is a child ambassador for Cauldwell Children.
To date the Diana Award has awarded over 800 young people in Wales and they are now looking for nominations for the next deadline of 2 May 2016. Those awarded will be celebrated at a prestigious ceremony in Cardiff on 12th October 2016 as part of INSPIRE Series where, alongside their peers they will also receive specialised training in campaigning, community action and employability skills as part of our Network Programme– www.diana-award.org.uk
